10 Finalists Chosen For 2019 Global Pluralism Award

OTTAWA, CANADA—JUNE 24, 2019—The Global Centre for Pluralism (GCP) today announced 10 finalists for the 2019 Global Pluralism Award.
Three winners will be announced in the fall and honoured at a ceremony in Ottawa on November 20 this year. The Award recognizes the extraordinary achievements of organizations, individuals and governments around the world who exemplify living peacefully and productively with diversity.

Leaving No One Behind – Amina Mohammed to Address Inclusion and the SDGs

As governments around the world prepare for the first global review of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, UN Deputy Secretary-General Amina J. Mohammed will deliver the 2019 Annual Pluralism Lecture on June 11 in Lisbon, Portugal. Ms. Mohammed will highlight how inaction on inequality and exclusion threatens to undermine achievement of the 17 Goals agreed to by 193 nations in 2015.

Karen Armstrong Delivers 2018 Annual Pluralism Lecture

LONDON, October 4, 2018 – Karen Armstrong, the British author, delivered the annual 2018 Global Centre for Pluralism Lecture today at the new Aga Khan Centre. The title of Ms. Armstrong’s lecture was “Compassion or Toleration? Two Approaches to Pluralism”.
Each person invited to give the Annual Pluralism Lecture is asked to reflect on how to build and strengthen pluralist societies. The Lecture is hosted by the Global Centre for Pluralism, an independent, charitable organization founded by His Highness the Aga Khan in partnership with the Government of Canada. It is based in Ottawa, Canada.

In Memoriam – Kofi Annan (1938-2018)

The Chair, Directors of the Board and staff of the Global Centre for Pluralism are deeply saddened at the death of Kofi Annan who, in addition to his many contributions to humanity, was a leading member of the Centre’s Board of Directors since its inception in 2010.

“Kofi Annan made an extraordinary contribution to the cause of pluralism in the world” said John McNee, Secretary General of the Centre. “He brought insight, empathy and understanding to promoting respect for others and explaining the dynamics of diverse societies in developing, emerging and industrialized countries.”

Global leaders of inclusion, human rights and equality to serve on jury of the 2019 Global Pluralism Award

A jury of international leaders, chaired by the Rt. Hon. Joe Clark, former Canadian Prime Minister, has been named to select the winners of the second Global Pluralism Award. The Award recognizes individuals and organisations who exemplify ‘pluralism in action’. In ground-breaking and creative ways, Award recipients are building societies where diversity is respected and valued.

The independent jury is made up of distinguished experts from the Americas, Europe and the Middle East. Through their work in government, human rights, education, academia and the private sector, jury members have an intimate understanding of the extraordinary effort it takes to build societies where differences are valued and respected.
