A statement on the recent mosque attack in Quebec City
The Global Centre for Pluralism is greatly saddened and deeply dismayed by the cruel attack on Muslims that took place on January 29th, 2017 at a mosque in Québec City, Canada. We extend our deepest condolences and all our sympathies to the families of the victims. This attack occurred against a backdrop of increasingly exclusionary rhetoric around the world, which reinforces the urgent need for greater mutual respect regardless of religion, ethnicity or culture. One of Canada’s great strengths has been its ability to embrace and include all of its people and to value their many differences. This must endure. The Centre will continue its work to advance a vision of a world where human differences are valued and diverse societies thrive in peace.
